A Thanksgiving Blessing – Doubled!
This month many of you, like me, will gather together with your family in thankfulness to celebrate the bounty that has been bestowed on our lives; even amidst these difficult economic times. While there is still much to be concerned about in these United States from an economic perspective, there are always things that we can look to in order to be reminded of the privileged lives we lead here in the “developed” world. Renowned author and pastor, Rick Warren, says it well, “Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life”. Looking at the challenges we face on a daily basis with this perspective allows us to see blessings even in the midst of pain. It also lets us recognize that we belong to the ranks of an exclusive few on this planet – the wealthiest top ninety-five percentile, in fact! This month men and women in both Ghana and Sudan are thankful as well. Small loans from donors like you for as little as $100 are enabling these developing world entrepreneurs to enter into a prosperity that they previously could have only dreamed of knowing. A $100 small business loan with training for a woman in Southern Sudan would be the equivalent of you and me receiving a loan well in excess of $10,000! Your generous giving has made all the difference in Ghana. And, in just a few short months as GBA’s micro-enterprise programs are implemented in Southern Sudan, men and women there will begin to reap the full rewards of micro-power. This Thanksgiving, with the help of several generous GBA donors, your “Thanksgiving blessing” gift of $100, directed to help start a small business in Sudan, will be doubled.
Double Your Impact and Blessing this NovemberIt is just that simple; funding one small business in the month of November will help start another. This Thanksgiving, I can not think of a better way to share your blessings with others in need of assistance in the developing world. Rick Warren, while contemplating his life and successes also stated, “We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character….” Character recognizes the needs of others. Character often places the needs of others before the needs of oneself. When we give to the world’s poor, enabling them to build capacity in their own lives, we demonstrate that even in the midst of our own lack, we still have the capacity to be concerned about our global neighbor. On behalf of the GBA staff and board of directors, I would like to thank each of our faithful donors who demonstrate this strength of character month after month in support of the world’s poor. And, thank you for going the extra mile in the month of November to double your impact as we work together to crush poverty through empowerment!
