As 2009 draws to a close, if you are like me, you may be happy to leave behind some of the economic challenges that have faced many of us this past year. Despite our nation’s troubled economy, we Americans have much to be thankful for this Christmas season. Specifically, I am thankful for your involvement with GBA this past year. Lives have been impacted on a global scale. This has been possible only through your partnership in our efforts.

Thanks to your financial support, a $65,000 micro-lending program has gotten underway in Sudan’s forgotten region of Bahr el Ghazal. Last month I had the privilege to meet with local tribal chiefs in this corner of Sudan. I find it difficult to describe to you their thankfulness for our assistance in helping them build capacity in their lives in this unstable region, where others are reticent to get involved. These efforts are just a small portion of your investment in GBA.

Micro-lending and business training programs continue in Ghana, and we look to expand our reach in 2010 to the nation of Ethiopia! Darfur, Albania – GBA continues to make an impact into areas of the world in dire need of assistance. You can be proud of our accomplishments this past year as an organization, and we recognize that they would not have been possible without your overwhelming generosity and commitment to the world’s poor.

As your personal time with family and friends begins this Christmas season, and as 2009 draws to a close, would you pay particular thought to making a special year-end, tax-deductible Christmas contribution to GBA? In these difficult economic times, your year-end contribution to the world’s poor is needed more than ever.

Our desire is that this Christmas year-end gift will not only provide you with an added tax benefit, but more importantly, it will provide much needed assistance for those in the developing world still awaiting their empowerment opportunity.
