Yesterday, our Green and Healthy Schools Academy took their Emerging Youth Program students to one of 17 living buildings in the world, Phipps Conservatory’s Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL). Phipps’ Meghan Scanlon joined the students to talk about the importance of green buildings and the synergistic nature between the natural world and high-performing buildings. Check it out below!
Meghan Scanlon, Wellness and Sustainability Specialist at Phipps, directs students to look at the automatic-temperature controlled window system throughout the CSL.
Solar panels aren’t the only roof-top fixture of a green building. The CSL features permeable pavement, renewable energy storage, and old-fashioned plant power on its roof!
Back at ground level, students were curious about how the building adjusts to our “Pittsburgh weather.”
Of course, its not an Emerging Youth event without games…
