Green Building Alliance is facilitating the energy master planning process on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh to convene large energy stakeholders in Oakland.
This partnership assists Oakland in early and proactive planning for energy efficiency, emissions reductions, and resilience.
Green Building Alliance serves as project manager for the Oakland Energy Master Plan on behalf of the Oakland Energy Taskforce that includes the City of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museums, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, Phipps Conservatory, Carlow University, and local utility providers. This collective recognizes the importance of creating a comprehensive energy plan for Oakland and planning for the next evolution of its shared energy systems.
The energy master plan aligns with the Oakland Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan goals, which aim to advance solutions for decarbonization, develop local and resilient sources of energy, and identify equitable energy solutions for all of Oakland.
The consultant team comprised of several local organizations is currently in phase one of a three phased approach. The first phase will create an energy baseline - current and projected - for all of Oakland in order to understand the long-term energy needs and opportunities of the neighborhood. Phase Two will develop energy scenarios to determine the decarbonization approach and specific strategies needed to achieve the project goals. Phase Three will outline implementation strategies based on the findings from phase one and two. This three-phased approach will set Oakland on the path of decarbonization and lay a precedent for neighborhood energy planning in the future.
