Full Route Green Building Walking Tour
Enjoy this full version of our Downtown Green Building Walking Tour, which includes 13 stops, beginning and ending at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This route is nearly 3 miles in length and will take 2-3 hours to complete.
PLEASE NOTE: This tour is meant to give you an up-close peek at some of our green buildings. Most of these spaces do not offer public tours and will be enjoyed from the outside. However, if you would like to experience some of our region’s green buildings, please visit the Other Highlights section for buildings that you can explore in more depth!
Stop 1: David L. Lawrence Convention Center

Stop 3: August Wilson African American Culture Center

Optional Rest Stop: Mellon Green

This “Urban Oasis” park features beautiful greenery, fountains, and benches to rest and recharge midway through the tour, while admiring the towering skyscrapers that surround the space.


Stop 6: Allegheny County Courthouse and Office Building

Optional Rest Stop: Firstside Park
Located across from PNC Firstside Center
The park resides on the north side of PNC Firstside Center and exhibits Fibonacci inspired grass patterns and unique anthropomorphic animal sculptures scattered throughout. Offering building users a place for engaging with nature is a main tenant of green building design and construction, so the park’s proximity to PNC Firstside Center ensures employees can get exercise and spend time outside.

Stop 8: George Rowland White Performance Center at Point Park University

Optional Rest Stop: Village Park
Intersection of Wood Street and Boulevard of the Allies
The site existed as a vacant gas station lot for years, until Point Park University purchased the land and converted the space into a comfortable urban park.


Optional Rest Stop: Market Square
Forbes Avenue and Market Street
Market Square is a pedestrian-friendly plaza that contains a quaint square park lined with restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. While there, check out PG&H for locally-made home goods, accessories, décor, and gifts.



*Tour Route Note: After STOP 12 as you head back towards your starting point of the Convention Center, take 5th Avenue or 6th Street towards the Allegheny River. There, you can catch the Three rivers Heritage Trail, turning right to walk back to the Convention Center. Along the trail, look across the river and you’ll have a great view of PNC Park from there.
Stop 13: PNC Park

Tour Route Note: After viewing PNC Park, you can continue down the trail which will bring you back to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
